MANAGEMENT
The Company is managed by Mr. Richard Gabriel, BS, MBA who
serves as CEO/President and Director. Mr. Gabriel is supported by his
staff of seasoned professionals, including Hector J. Gomez, MD, PhD,
who is the company’s CMO (Chief Medical Officer) and also serves
as Chairman of the Board, Tony Frudakis, PhD, CSO (Chief Scientific
Officer) and also serves as a Director, and Ms. Karen Surplus,
CFO (Chief Financial Officer). Mr. Gabriel plans to add additional
professionals to the company’s staff as the company
grows.

Richard Gabriel, BS, MBA, CEO/ President
From 1998 until 2001 Mr. Gabriel served as Chief Executive
Officer and President of Calix Corporation, parent company
to Pharm-Eco Laboratories, Inc. He was one of five core team
members that set the overall strategic direction for Pharm-Eco
Laboratories, Inc. and helped guide Pharm-Eco's high performance
self-directed organization. Mr. Gabriel was instrumental in
closing and managing over $135 million in contract revenue
for Pharm-Eco Laboratories and successfully completed the formation
of several joint ventures, limited liability companies and
spin-offs that resulted in several public and private companies
in the genetics/chemistry/pharmaceutical field. From 2001 until
becoming the Chief Executive Officer and President for DNAPrint®,
he consulted for several start-up companies while working as
a partner at Genbiomics, LLC and as head of Life Sciences Practice
at Semaphore, Inc. Prior to the formation of his own consulting
practice in 1985, Mr. Gabriel was a product manager for W.R.
Grace. He obtained his MBA from Suffolk University's Executive
MBA Program, Boston, Massachusetts, in 1985, and his B.S. in
Chemistry from Ohio Dominican College, Columbus, Ohio in 1978.
Hector J. Gomez, MD, PhD, Chief Medical Officer
Dr Gomez has over twenty years of experience in the biopharmaceutical
industry and has managed the development of 10 marketed drugs,
mostly in the cardiovascular area. Dr. Gomez has previously
served as President and CEO of Transcend Therapeutics, Inc.,
CEO of Zengen, Inc., Vice President of Medical Affairs for
Vertex Pharmaceuticals and as an Executive Director with Ciba-Geigy
Corporation. From 1979 to 1988 Dr. Gomez was a Director and
Senior Director at Merck/MSDRL Corporation. He currently serves
as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of DNAPrint® Genomics,
Inc., PRB Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Asia Healthcare Ltd. Dr.
Gomez received an M.D. from the National University of Colombia,
and a PhD from Marquette University and a Diploma in Clinical
Pharmacology from Tulane University.
Tony Frudakis, PhD, Founder, Chief Scientific Officer
Dr.
Frudakis founded GAFF biologic, the predecessor in interest to DNAPrint®,
in 1998. He served as its President and Chief Executive Officer. Prior to
founding GAFF biologic, Dr. Frudakis was a research scientist for Corixa
Corporation for four years. While at Corixa he developed several new techniques
for RNA fingerprinting, managed and executed high-throughput gene discovery
programs for various cancers and was instrumental in the company's
early success in attracting research and development partners.
In all, his work has resulted in a patent portfolio for over
350 unique genes and two products. Dr. Frudakis is a Phi Beta
Kappa, Magna cum laude graduate of the University of California
Irvine where he received a BS degree in Biological Sciences. Dr.
Frudakis also earned a doctorate degree in molecular and cell
biology from the University of California Berkeley.
Karen Surplus, CPA, MBA, Chief Financial Officer
Ms.
Surplus is a certified public accountant who consulted with DNAPrint® during the
last three years prior to joining DNAPrint®. Previously, she
served as CFO
of Digital Fusion, Inc., an information technology company for four
years where she assisted with getting the operations from cash
burn of
over a million dollars a month to a break even. She was
Chief
Accounting Officer at Tampa-based PowerCerv Corp.; from 1995-1999 where
she was
instrumental in PowerCerv’s initial public offering. From
1988-1995, she held
the position of Controller and Treasurer of Progress Credit
Corporation, a
subsidiary of Progress Energy. Ms. Surplus’ duties included
selling $500
million of assets while Progress Energy withdrew from the leasing and
lending
arena while optimizing profit and cash. Ms. Surplus is the Chief
Financial
Officer of DNAPrint Genomics, Inc. Ms. Surplus obtained her
Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis in
accounting from Kansas State University, and earned
an MBA degree from the University of Tampa.
